'…and the moon stood still for the night bird's song…' by Charlaine Gerber
At least in the northern hemisphere autumn has arrived and with it all kinds of traditions. In my series of ‘poems as a canvas’ the wonderful poem "Theme in Yellow" by the American poet and Pulitzer Prize winner Carl Sandburg gave an inspiring canvas for this time of year. His poem hints on one of those traditions… just read and enjoy…
Theme in Yellow
I spot the hills
With yellow balls in autumn.
I light the prairie cornfields
Orange and tawny gold clusters
And I am called pumpkins.
On the last of October
When dusk is fallen
Children join hands
And circle round me
Singing ghost songs
And love to the harvest moon;
I am a jack-o'-lantern
With terrible teeth
And the children know
I am fooling.
~Carl Sandburg~ (1878 – 1967)
Now, let’s dig in the 1x image vault to find some images that for me illustrate these words. Of course, these not replacing the poem, just adding to the sentiments it provokes. Illustrating what I felt and visualized reading it in shapes and colors.
All of them are master pieces in their own right – here they are:
