Featured exhibition: 'Beyond the veil' by Petri Damstén

This months' featured exhibition is titled 'Beyond the veil' by Petri Damstén
                         
Petri  quotes : 'In 2009, I was compelled to retire from my daily work due to depression. Since then, photography has taken on a profound role in my life as a therapeutic outlet. Through my photographs, I've found a powerful means of expressing and processing my emotions, offering much-needed solace and healing. My art frequently delves into the depths of life's darker aspects, presenting images that are often moody, surreal, and evocatively distressing.'


About DYSTOPIA
When creating this series, I embarked on a mental journey through the years before my retirement, envisioning it as a dystopian society. The image of a little human facing a faceless society was an easy role to portray.

 

About DARK ROOM
I got my first inspiration for this series while listening to my favorite metal band, Sentenced. It evolved into a collection of images depicting what a dark mind might look like from the inside—reflecting all the destructive thoughts that circulate in your brain and the feelings that bring you down. The dark room inside of your own head.

 

About IMPERFECT
Inspired by Mia Westerling's poem "Silmät Wyomingin," this series was created for the "Runokuvaa 2" project, where six photographers used poems from six poets to create picture series. 

 

About MASCULINITY
The social expectations and harmful stereotypes surrounding masculinity can create a narrow and rigid definition of manhood that doesn't allow for individuality and emotional expression. As an artist, I felt compelled to challenge these notions and break free from the confines of the conventional male archetype.
