For many, the summer is a time for vacation and relaxation. During this time, the activity on many websites goes down by 10% as we rather spend time outdoors. For us, operating a website, this is the perfect time of the year to do upgrades to our infrastructure to make sure that the site will run smoothly. During July, we will perform a number of massive upgrades that will be critical for the future operation of 1x.com.

We have invested in a completely new infrastructure with better redundancy and the capacity to host your fantastic photos in the best quality possible without delays. The new system will allow us to perform maintenance without downtime. It will be a great improvement both for us running the site and for our visitors.

Unfortunately this upgrade will cause some downtime. We will do our best to prevent it, but it will be inevitable. During these times you will be unable to access 1x and instead see a message that we are having a temporary downtime. We would like to thank you all for your understanding and you can rest assured that we are doing this to have a much more stable website when the upgrades are done.

We will perform this work during July and we expect everything to be done before the end of the month.

What will happen to photos in curation if the site has downtime?

We will automatically extend the time a photo is in curation to compensate for any votes lost during downtime. We also require a minimum amount of votes on photos before they are allowed to leave curation.

How much downtime is expected?

Our goal is as close to zero downtime as possible but with the current infrastructure it is not possible to guarantee that. The new technology that we are installing will ensure that future upgrades can be done without downtime.

When will the work be finished?

We expect everything to be finished by the end of July 2023, but if everything goes smooth it will be quicker.

When the upgrades are done we will celebrate our new infrastructure with some great offers for members who are not yet PRO.
Our existing PRO members will also be compensated for the downtime related to this upgrade. More about this in a later post when the work is finished.
