Zigzag ...

Interview/tutorial by Editor Michel Romaggi in collaboration with the author Ibrahim Nabeel

'Zigzag'

Hi Ibrahim …

What does this picture represent? Is it a building?
Under what circumstances did you take it? Where, when, an artistic intention?
What equipment (camera, lens) and what settings did you use?
First of all, I would like to thank you, dear Michel, for this interview and thanks to 1x for giving all members the opportunity to learn and develop.

I took this image while I was photographing a building for one of the companies I deal with.
In fact, I am interested in abstract work and small details inspire me a lot.  I find them very interesting.
I used a Canon EOS 6D Mark II with a 24-105mm lens.
Settings: 1/125 s, f/9, ISO 250.
Then, I chose these colours to highlight the angles, the geometric shapes and the sinuous lines.
In the end, I fell in love with these colours and found them very suitable.

It seams that shapes and colours are an essential source of your creativity.  Isn't it?
What does attract you to this kind of picture?
However, you often choose to use black and white too.  Can you explain these choices?
As I said before, I am attracted by small details and shapes and I find them interesting.
I use colours to highlight the geometric shapes and lines and to highlight as well, the idea.

According to BW, to me it represents another world and a different dimension.
I think that it translates the feeling differently from colour images.

I like diversity! I do not like monotony or adherence to a certain type or style.  I consider my eyes as a small portable camera.  I record what attracts me it in my mind and imagine the scene before visiting again and shooting on that location on the right moment!
Sometimes it also happens spontaneously!
Landscape photography needs to be prepared in advance to be able to choose the right time and to have the right equipment.

In your portfolio, we can see architecture photography, landscape photography, colour images as well as black and white images, and sometimes heavily edited photographs.  Can you tell us a little about your photographic vision?
My vision of photography is a passion and a talent that needs to be constantly nurtured and refined through visual feeding and access to everything new in the world of photography and learning from others.

Please tell us a little more about yourself, your life and your passion of photography, Ibrahim?
My father is an old school photographer and has had his own studio since 1971.  I was born in a house full of photographers and I have been working in photography for almost 15 years!
I started to practice a more artistic style about three years ago.  I had some serious difficulties at the beginning because there is such a big difference between commercial or touristic photography and artistic photography.   I transferred my artistic taste to a big qualitative leap and I became more familiar with all the big and small details around me!
I made a huge effort to improve my technique and to reach my current level.
I always wanted to learn more and to improve myself.  I would love to put my artistic signature in every place and corner of this world!  That's why I participated in international competitions and got several international awards and distinctions.
