Rules are Rules

Rules are Rules or are they? When posting images in Selection the rules state – No Names or Tags – No Borders or Frames yet we do see many images going through selection with names and frames and even being Published “ Why “– So My view - This should not happen these images should be disqualified from the process it’s that simple. Or offer the photographer the chance to re-load - Or take away the rules so we all have the same playing field.. – The majority stick to the Rules so why do the few get away with it time after time.

You are perfectly right, I second that.

Many times I face the rejection of a photo with the criticism "Lack of originality". On the other hand, I see again and again photos of ladybugs surrounded by air bubbles that do get published. Where is the originality? Are they commercial? Do they sell more? Is it only the artistic quality of a photo that is analyzed or do other commercial factors influence it? It seems that there are people who publish directly, while others are closely scrutinized for the quality of their work.

Yes, dear friend. 1x is not the quintessence of photography any more. New iconography hardly find a place to come up here, yealding to more and more corny - though technically perfect - pictures like the ones you mentioned (not to talk to those that show us nude girls portrayed in any kind of hackneyed settings or stitched here or there on painting-like images)

I don't see how rejection and criticism correspond. You can't even know who left you the comment and if these people excel in "originality". Don't take it too serious. It's like many things here about collecting points in member curation, I believe. To rank higher in a ranking nobody really cares about.

The number 1 reason to have a business, and 1x is a business, is to make money. 1x is making money for the hierarchy of the business under the guise of giving you something in return. If you can find interest in that return, is up to you, without forgetting the number 1 reason this business exists.

It is in their best interest to find the formula that works best to exploit the members to fulfill their goals in business, to make more money today than they did yesterday.

The photographs, if you can call them that, I am very old school photography, are definitely “In the box”. They steer you toward their goal of selling. When you go to the “Art Print” store, your work is lost in a sea of decoration and what they decide to promote.

Once you can get your head around this premise of their goals, you can bet that, if you are not a subscriber to their formula you may not get published, if it is not in their best interest. It is like most governments that don’t allow their constituents to make any decisions, you think you vote counts but it is really up to the politician to decide. That is why the member curation is useless and the decision is done solely by the senior curators.

You can see some positive side of this, even if your work doesn’t get published. There are the acknowledgements that you can use for your own photographic promotion, like all the positive comments you get on any of your submitted work as well as your publication and awarded works.

I guess for me the question is; is that value enough to warrant the price of admission? This appears to be the “new normal”, and I would suggest that; knowing their goals, glean what you can and forge your own way.

Sincerely,

Philip

I accidentally uploaded the wrong photo. Size too small and with watermark. I tried to reload, but the photo is in the curatorial process. How do I adjust this now?

Hi Ina,

If you re-uploaded, it will be exchanged. It may take a day or two since re-uploads get reviewed.

Cheers,

Mike
