First of all it's my mistake to have my photos on sale.
But if I look on the aernings I get for my work it's ridiculous.
See the image below the 1x policy on getting paid.
I turned off the sale options for my photos.
I just want to warn our members to watch out for these low fees and not put your photos on sale via 1x.......
Marco,
The only place I could find your photos is Ohmyprints, and the average provision is 7% there.
1x works with partner shops, and the earnings are split 50/50%. All you have to do is getting published, and as far as I can see you're skilled enough to achieve that easily. 1x makes sure it is offered in various online stores, more than you'd probably like to address yourself.
At these stores, prints are offered for 12-40€ mostly, some even sell postcards for $5. The partner needs to make some profit, they have costs for the print and material, and just a small amount will be the provision for the artist.
If a partner sells a small print, e.g. canvas (which I hate) for 30€, how much do you think you should get, considering it's split 50/50?
My average is 4,60 overall, but I seem to sell a lot more. Sometimes for more than 20€ a photo, sometines below 1€. And I really don't care too much, since I took the photos anyway and rather see it as a sport to get them published here on 1x.
Selling prints is a tough market, so many talents offer their work. I don't want to upset you, but I don't think your work is very unique. With these kind of photos you will always have strong competition, maybe the reason it's just 1 or two per quarter.
If it bothers you, uncheck the sales option simply. There is no reason to blame 1x for the earnings. The provision model is openly discussed, and at the end customers decide to buy small prints - or even postcards with high quality photographs.

Mike
Mike,
1x is a high standard with regard to the photos published. As 1x itself indicates but is also certain. A big difference with stock photo sites or other photo dump sites.
Your statement about Ohmyprints (for the Dutch members Werkaandemuur) is not correct. This site gives you the freedom to determine your own commission, that aside.
The serious photographers at 1x put a lot of time and energy into taking the photos, their equipment and post processing. This can also be seen in the published photos. Where things go wrong in my opinion is the post-publication policy. I would expect that 1x only concludes agreements with web shops that do not do mass production. This respects the work and energy of the photographers. But also respects the curation process of 1x, that our photos are not sold as postcards or sold at dump prices.
On the contrary, because of the 50 / 50 construction it is also interesting for 1x to sell as much as possible and build a large network. This makes every euro interesting and you pass your curation process and high quality publication as 1x. It is now all about selling as much as possible at any price. This creates these kinds of fees for the photographers.
By the way, it's not about whether my / your / our work is unique or not, kind of strange comment. Our work has been judged by the higher standard of 1x, after which it is treated carelessly and is in my view inconsistent with the original thoughts and reasons 1x was created and developed.

Marco
