I'm new to 1X and the upload process; I noticed that my first uploads are all classified as low resolution for printing (72 dpi, 2048 pix max length). What is the recommended upload resolution for selling prints? And do I have to start the curation process all over for any previously uploaded images that I now replace with higher res images?

Dave,

In the FAQ section of Classic 1X, it was recommended that members upload full resolution photos.  There doesn't seem to be the same information in the Frequently Asked Questions in Gamma 1X.  I've cut this from Classic FAQ and pasted it here . . . . .

"What are your size recommendations for uploading photos?
We recommend that you always upload your photos in the original resolution from camera. They will automatically be resized to a smaller optimal size when displayed on 1x and the high-resolution file will not be made public. Photos sent to the curators must be at least 1000 pixels on the long side, but for a better viewing experience we recommend always uploading in at least 1500 pixels on the long side."
I don't have an answer to your second question regarding replacing your photos with higher resolution ones.   You could try writing to support @ 1x.com, or just try replacing one image as a test.  Let us know here how that works, OK?   Thanks.
