#PHOTOGRAPHY ENGAGEMENT

Hey guys, I thought I will start a discussions and I hope we can have some good ideas here. When I started using 1x.com many years ago, I thought we had a lot more engagement for our images. Even when I see how many people engaged (liked, added to favorites or commented) on my photographs it was a lot more several years ago than it is today.

Ok, I though that my images became boring. I went to check the overall engagement for other photographs and I see it had decreased a lot overall, as a trend. I am wondering why?

People not interested in photography now?

People are overloaded with content?

People prefer social media, like Instagram and video content like TicToc and Youtube shorts?

What is your opinion? Thankls for sharing it.

As always, the truth will probably lie somewhere in between:

- there are now a myriad of distribution options for “images” in the digital space,

- Young people in particular are more interested in animated videos,

- Even on 1x there are so many published images per day that it would be a full day's work to view them all, let alone comment on them,

- the number of likes of new and old pictures on 1x are not comparable - because the old pictures had more time to collect likes - I still get likes and comments on pictures that I posted in 2013

Greetings

Udo

I think even forums were a lot more alive here. I think after the intial switch off the forums around 10 years ago...activities never recovered. But maybe things indeed changed and folks moved to Social Media. No clue. But clearly the different is very noticeable.

The number of uploaded images to social media have inflated to insane. Recently there was an investigation about the average time the consumer looks on every picture. It's 0.4 seconds now (in the Instagram flow), I don't think that this will change for the better in the future. Here at 1X the users want to upload a new image for curation every two days, I never understood this. That's why it is as it is. Less would be more ....

Good light,
