Hello, so I'm guessing my Free membership I signed onto back in early 2015 does not allow 1 photo upload per week anymore. I just want
to be sure if it's a glich or I'm suppose to become a paid member now. I have no problem becoming a paid member, I just want some clarification.
Thanks

Hello Jim, uploading photos for curation isn't possible anymore unless you're a paid member.
Thanks for the info
Jim
thanks that's clear now,
but uploading 10 pictures a week for Pro members, yes, but only one single image authorized to be sent to curators at same time, as curation takes for this single image nearly one week to be curated, that's means you can upload (and request for curation) not more than 5-6 pictures a MONTH.
Also I miss the 'communication' with other members for published pictures and this new version makes feeling quite alone (except of the forum of course) as comments during curation are 1) anonymes 2) not many members gives comments during curation (I can understand that, I do not either).

Hello
We have made updates to curation recently. An image should never take longer than 2 days to go through curation.
Regards
Jacob
thank you Jacob for quick reply and explanation ...
anyhow 2 days for curation (that's neve reached actually), but it makes still 20 days for 10 pictures and not 7 days ??
But that is surely an importante change on your new version, but unfortunately not the only one which makes your new version much less attractif actually.
Sorry ... brgds Anna

People enjoy the additial feedback and the more interactive curation. Allowing more photos simultaneously would make curation take even longer since the time spent on each image in the new version is longer than in the old version. That is why we have a limit of one image simultaneously. It is also better for the learning aspect of curation that the photographer can focus on one image at the time and then continue to the next one.
We have a clear vision behind these changes and we believe that most photographers do not produce 10 publish-worthy images every week. ~3-4 per week should be plenty for must of us.

Hi Jacob,
If you allow me to notice, I've read almost all the forum posts for the last 2-3 months and I haven't seen a single post in favor of the new curation system. The opposite is unfortunately true. And the problem is not so much the quantity of the photos uploaded, but mainly the quality. The same comments again and again (obviously from the same person) copied and pasted in every image regardless of its content, meaningful anonymous comments, and of course the luck of reliability in the new system - no one knows how many votes are involved in the curation of any particular image, what is the percerntage of the votes of senior curators, why are there abrupt changes in the popularity, even in the last stages of the curation process, how is it possible the popularity to be always exactly the same when an image is compared to all uploaded images and inside its category, how is possible the same photo to have a 7% popularity and be rejected and then uploaded again 2 weeks later and have a popularity of 72% and been published, and a lot more which you can find across the forums.
I loved the old 1x and a big part of my photography life is connected with it. I hope that, as you said, people really enjoy the new version and 1x will continue to inspire and educate new photographers, but unfortunately I don't believe that it is the case.
Take care and good light,
George Digalakis
People rarely write about what they like, just about what they dislike.
I have the statistics from the server logs which show a huge increase in activity after the new curation was launched. Also the amount of images sent to curation have increased.
With the old version, 1x was bleeding. Very few new members and activity was steadily decreasing. This had to addressed and we listened to the feedback from our members - they wanted more feedback and data about the curation process.

Hi Jacob,
With all due respect; but what does the subjective feedback say if there are no objective criteria to compare it with? If the chosen buttons in Areas of improvement are not backed up by an explanation, how should we learn from them? I try to make sense of the indicators, but haven't found much sense in them yet and keep guessing. Thank god for the senior critics and some published photos, otherwise I probably would have left already.
I value any good intention and efforts to enhance our user experience, but I find it hard to believe the curation process currently adds much to that. Also site navigation has become quite a challenge.
You have more insight in the stats of 1x than we do, but could the increase in activities and photos submitted to curation maybe be interpreted differently and have another reason, such as 'old' members trying to reinstate their portfolios or do you see an increase in new members too?
In any case a roadmap of (accomplished) site improvements would be very much appreciated.
Kind regards!
PS: this is the last I'm going to write about the curation process in this forum, promised! It's just too exhausting, I'd much rather focus on something that gives me energy; photography! 😉
Hello, Thomas. I do not know when I joined, but it was like 10 years ago. I had paid membership, but then I saw no value in it, so I did not continue, but that too was long time ago. You say that I should be able to use the conditions that I have signed, meaning one free upload slot per week, but I do not have it. What is going on? I am unable to upload anything now. Can you please explain? Thanks!
Is this thread dead? I see no answer from Thomas at all....
