#AI GENERATED

(I posted this on the Photography channel, but I guess it is more appropriated here.)

I was wondering whats 1x policy on AI (fully) generated images.
Just asking as today I saw a image being published on 1x social media which has AI written all over it.
Scrolling trough the "Creative Edit" gallery I could find several AI generated images, which have been published.

I am not talking about computer manipulated photographs, one way or another everyone does it, even if is just tweaking some settings in LR.
What I am talking about is an image fully generated by AI, by introducing a text prompt.
AI does not magicly create a image from nothing, it uses imagery from all over the internet. So the image you just awareded and proudly display on your site and social media, may have been ripped from a bunch of other hard working artist..

I have nothing against AI generated imagery, we use it everyday at my studio, although we would never use it as a final product.

Since there is no action from 1x, both here and on Facebook, I will keep posting to bump this up.

Since there is no action from 1x

Hello Carlos,

Please don't consider this an "official answer" from 1x, I'm just a member with a role on this site. There were several discussions about CGI and also statements from Ralf. These words are of course almost impossible to find because the search function does not include text in forums. 1x is a gallery for artistic photography. To a certain extend CGI is accepted in the creative edit category, but CGI must not be the main - or even only - element, photography is our common sense here. There were works removed that were purely rendered. I think t's fair to say AI-generated work, like for example Dall-E creations, are also not photography and don'tt belong to 1x.

Sometimes they're simply hard to distinguish from composings, the reason they may even receive awards. If members feel they have to post work nothing to do with the passion for photography there is little 1x can do. Report the works if you're sure or you asked the member and have confidence.

Regards,

Mike

Thanks for the reply Mike.
The reason I started the post here regarding this issue was related to a picture which was awarded and posted on 1X Facebook page (still is at this time).
The image was so blantanly AI generated that anyone who would have spent a moment looking at it would have noticed how fake it was.
While I have no issue with AI-generated images in general, as I have been a Midjourney user since its inception, I do find it disturbing that someone would post something on a site like 1X that is fully AI-generated and expect to be able to get away with it.
They should be ashamed of themselves and I do hope 1X can be more strict and vigilant against such fake artists in the future.

btw, I do not know how a picture can be reported on 1x site, or to whom.

Good evening Carlos,

I'm not sure what photos are shown on the 1x Facebook (and Instagram) page. I just remember this question came up for instagram here once, and it turned out these may be just Instagram members posting in that group and contributions become approved. Could be he same with Facebook, I also moderate a FB group and "curate" the entries.

I randomly picked a photo where I could hardly imagine it is an awarded photo:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/168142246901355/posts/1767139817001582/

Then I looked for the person and photos on 1x, but it turned out there were no photos selected yet:

https://1x.com/search/Ilana

Which supports my theory about moderates posts in social media, nothing to do with te result of curation on 1x.

Best regards,

Mike

The image had been added by 1x, as an awarded image: https://www.facebook.com/onexposure/photos/a.119489322209/10160616293717210

Also in this site: https://1x.com/photo/2407615

There was no reaction from whoever posted the picture on Facebook, even though myself as well as other people have mentioned that the image was likely to have been AI generated. I even posted several very similar images which have been created by the Midjourney, the generator used by this person.

In fact there is a statement this is not photography on Instagram:

https://www.instagram.com/p/CmY_IPKqXAB/

A user asked if this really exists and the author answered: "nella mia fantasia si".

The main subject was thus not photographed and it should not take part in a gallery for photography.

This explains quite well what this people are doing when posting AI generated images
Maybe this would help some of the 1X team to understand
