I've never quite got my head around using the PS vanishing point filter. I have a creative shot in mind where I know I will have to use it. Have members got some tips on how it is used, and also some examples?

Hello Adrian,
Maybe I can help. I use VP quite often. Mostly to do some (humorous?) effects.
For instance this example: I took a photo of a talented musian, studying at Antwerp Music Academy. I took a photo of the big wall outside the OperaHouse in Brussels. Optimised them in LightRoom, brought them in Photoshop CS6.
Here is the workflow to make these photos in a VP compo.
Select the portrait photo (CtrL+A) and copy (C)
Select the OperaHouse photo and make a new Layer (Shift+CtrL+N)
Then Open VanishingPoint under Filters or CtrL+ALT+V
Click C and select a rectangle (always in blue)
CrtL+V brings the portraitphoto in
Click T and hold Shift+ALT to resize and constrain proportions
Then click ENTER. Now tweak with BlendModes and opacity.
Good luck. Hope you have fun ans success!
