Landscape vs Seascape

I have noticed that 1x includes seascapes in the landscape category. Is this the way seascapes are traditionally handled? I have proposed a group entitled "The Sea" but as of yet I have not heard back from 1x admin. How do other seascape photographers feel about this?

I've personally never seen a distinction or a need for one. We haven't had separate categories here in the history of the site.

They have not been treated separately here in terms of submissions to the curated gallery.
If you stop to think about it - most seascapes do have some land in them (sand, rocks, etc) or perhaps some object like a lighthouse or boat - mountains in the distance and usually a sky. At the same time what we think of as a landscape very often has water in the frame - lakes, rivers, ponds, etc. So I do think that it is okay to have just the one category. However, If you have proposed a group called The Sea I am sure it will be considered.

I've never heard anyone refer to themselves with that term.

Clyde,
Actually it was Jamie Morrison who is soliciting answers to this question Seascape photographers. See OP from him.

My answer was to that question and more of what he said in his OP.

I am not able to use the quote function on all posts. So I guess I will do it
manually in future.

If you would like an answer to your statement - you might want to re-post to Jamie.

Statements don't beg answers, question do. It was just an observation...

Since you quoted me I thought you might want an answer..but since you do not and have made your point, then I don't have anything further to add to your statement.

I'll try to remember that.

I would welcome a maritime category! It could incude the open sea but also ships and yachts and maybe some seascapes were the open waters dominate.

How much water is too much water? How much water do I need in my shot before it becomes a waterscape rather than a landscape? Is it the background? Do I have to have something beyond the water to ensure it's still a landscape rather than a "pure" waterscape? I shoot a lot of water, sometimes big lakes, small rivers or coasts but I still call myself a landscape photographer, anything with an outdoor scene captured more or less as is, is a landscape to me.

I totally agree with you George that a waterscape is a part of landscape and should be included in the landscape category and group.
