Epics made colourful

I have to say that the definition, depth and ultimately, the pleasure of viewing these epics in colour seems so much better.

I would agree with you Andre that some come out looking considerably more attractive, and yet with most I find them less appealing.

The Guardian generally does a great job of posting good quality photos. In this case, not so much. Perhaps that was the intent - to make us believe that the colorized was 'so much' better.

For example the Dorothy Lange photo of the store...this one I linked below is just seconds later I think...and make sure you see it big...is so much better left as it was...and we have to consider that this is just the Internet..The print must be filled with so many details. This is a historical document. We can't know what colors they had on, or the tones of their skin. The next part is probably just because I am American. Those signs can be bought at local stores - usually fake antiques. Also Walmart makes them. Maybe we should not tamper with History? :))
Here is a better version of that picture..

There are wonderful photos of the march with MLK Jr...in b/w and color. Bruce Davison has some awesome photos of he civil rights movement in rich high contrast b/w.

The Monk - well of course it happened in color...but strangely I think with so many Hollywood special effects on the scene these days...it seems richer and much more real - for me in b/w.

The atomic bomb in color is quite good - as it shows the absurdity of beauty and the beast . The portraits colorized are good - especially Lincoln as the photo itself is retouched.

Of course I am guilty of being a Photoshop lover, and I don't want to be hypocritical, but isn't history important anymore?

BTW I also feel it is a pity to do this to films. If I want to see Orson Wells...I want to see all those shadows.....and have to squint my eyes...therein lies the pleasure for me.

Thanks for sharing....and letting me have a little rant. :)
For Paco - I hope this was not too negative? :)
