Bird Photography: Do you need or use a hide?

Although I have never used one because birds here in Florida are not very flighty, I have seen the use of many of hides, even hydro-hides to be able to get fairly close to subjects without disturbing them.

If you do, do you rent space in one, build your own?

Here is a video of a great Spanish Bird Photographer, about hides, and what you can get from them.
Over the top bird images, behavioral videos, time lapses and just pure joy to watch if you like nature.

Enjoy!

Well the classic answer to a question like this is "it depends". And that dependence is based on what you are shooting and their tolerance of people. In Florida I don't think I've ever used one. When I lived up north and did more songbird photography, hides were very useful.

I have one but I rarely used it. Just you said, in Florida, they are not that afraid of people.

I live in Ohio and I rarely use one. But then again I try not to stand out to my subject as much as possible.
