Well, in my opinion there isn't just one good place to photoshoot an animal. To get a good picture of an animal its about timing. Every second counts. When i photoshoot animals i take like 10-15 shots so i can get a good one(!!), but this one shot is a great one!

-----

(Sample of my work) This is my Jack Russell terrier named Rush. In the first picture, he was asleep so when i went near him to take a picture he raised his head and looked at me with a question on his face: "what is he doing?", "what is this?". In the second one, you see the disapointment on his face because i woke him up!

Well, it may seem obvious but Kenya look just a right place.
Ambosseli National Park is a very interesting place where you stay opposite Kilimanjaro

I agree there is no one good place and some of the best animal photos can come from anywhere. However there are certainly places that can increase your chances of that once in a lifetime shot. In North America, I don't think one could beat Yellowstone National Park.

It doesn't always need to be in wildlife although it's more exciting. You can get quite far in a zoo as well. Please let me show you what i mean:

It only takes time and a lot of patience. Plus it's a lot safer than in wildlife :)

Just today i had a talk with a german hunter. They are professional hunters and i asked them if the photograph also local animals. He told me that they only do this for observation and counting certain animals and they use movement trigger cameras like that one with infrared sensor for the night purpose.

I asked him if i can attend such hunt and observation to click some picture in silent mode of course and he agreed to take me in the autumn time with him to click some wild pigs and wash bears and perhaps some wolfs. Now i am looking forward to it!

Very interesting :) It is great opportunity. Not just taking the photos but almost feel the animlas you are taking photos of. It must be great adventure.
I hope you would refer after your trip and add some great photos.

I lot depends on the animal you want to photograph. It's best to ask first "What do I want to photograph?" rather than a more general question like "Where should I go to photograph animals". The best places to go definitely depend on what your target subject is. For example, if you want to photograph wading birds in the USA, it's hard to beat Florida since most of the wading birds are highly tame. But you wouldn't have much luck photographing wading birds in other parts of the country because they are both less abundant and more skittish.

Hello Michelle:

Just my own opinion, I do n't like a zoo, animals there are locked, never I like to take pictures. In this case, I have no wildlife animals, no tigers, but a lot of small birds. At my environment there is a bird sanctuary and there are gooses, morhens, herons, damsels, etc.
I live nearby a landscape protection area and there are buzzards, and sometimes comes a sheepherder with his sheeps, and so I have a good chance to take pictures with animals.

Info to this image: (taken at the bird sanctuary) I saw it and pressed the bottom, a chance of one second. But I love it.

In my opinion, sometimes best timing is more important than best place.

pay more attention to stray life. I took this stray cat, she is so cool & lovely. :-)

In your neighborhood, in your city, maybe lots of stray lives. capture their moment, give them some love.

Robert, congratulations, you did going to the right persons. This is really a good idea to contact hunters and go with them. Thank you for this idea. Ikka

Hi, I'm Chris and my first contribution to this topic is a Jellyfish. This Photo was taken in the Indian ocean near Fihalhohi, island of the maldives.

Not only on dry land but also under the surface you can take beautiful Photos of animals (in this case thalassians), for example in your vacancy, when you have time enough to concentrate upon your favourite and maybe more exotic motives than at your home (naturally depends on where you live ;-)).

You don't have to spend a fortune on expensive underwater cases to get great shots - all of my recent underwater photos i took whit a DicaPac protected Digicam. This beautiful specimen I photographed while I was snorkeling in about 2-3m depht. I took about 15 photos and choose this one as the best and the sharpest one. Postprocessed of course, to improve colours, whitebalance, sharpness etc. I hope you like it.

Best regards, Chris

Just outside a small airport. The time was more important: early in the morning for the sun to be gentle.
