Adobe Not Providing New Camera Raw for CS6
#CAMERAS

I just recently purchased the Nikon D5. I have been working with Photoshop CS6. However, Adobe does not offer the Camera Raw plugin 9.5.1 for CS6. You will have to pay a monthly subscription to use the Cloud version of Photoshop, in order to use the Camera Raw that supports the Nikon D5 RAW file format.

I did download Nikon's Capture NX-D software to at least open the RAW file to convert. But Capture is too limited.

Has anyone recently purchased the Nikon D5 or any other new camera? If yes, are you using a different software other than Adobe CC Photoshop or CC Lightroom?

Hi Phil

No worries, just go to the Adobe site and download the DNG Converter. Will convert the file to one CS5 will be able to use. Free download.

The new CC does have a lot of features and is worth using. I resisted for a while but gave in.

If you have any problem with the DNG, please send me a message !!

Thanks Alfred. I will do.

I am for getting the new software to take advantage of updated features. I am simply not ready to pay the monthly subscription fee. CS6 does wonderful work for me. So, I will try to stay with it as long as I can.

I hear you Phil!

We've used the dog many ties, especially when a camera is new and Adobe has not been fast enough.

Cheers,

Conversion from NEF to DNG in order to process in CS6 is certainly an option. However, you won't know how much of raw data from the D5' excellent sensor gets lost in this conversion. When using Capture NX-D, nothing is lost and you have it embedded in the TIFF that will be created when you open the NEF in CS6 ("open with" from CNX-D).

Thanks Thomas. I tried using Capture NX-D. It seem to have limited functionality. Perhaps, I should review documentation on CNX-D to get a better understanding of how the app works.

One of the few things that I enjoyed about Adobe Camera Raw was it's ability to open NEF files and making some adjustments, when necessary. All it did was produced a small XML file that contained the adjustments. I always save the results as a PSD file, and work from that. At this point, I will try DNG and Capture NX-D.

I have Adobe CC at work, and I just installed the latest Camera Raw that supports the D5's RAW format. I did a minor comparison of what DNG produced versus what Camera Raw produced. Visually, they both appeared the same. Again, it was a minor comparison. I will compare the EXIF data when I am not crazy busy at work and do some print comparisons as well.

In the end, if I am forced to subscribe to the monthly Adobe CC subscription, it better do a great deal more than simply open the D5's NEF file, compared to the features of CS6.

Thanks again.
