Hello everyone,

I did this landscape shot in a sunflower field at the sunset. I like the patterns of the sunflowers and the sky very much. My last landscape photo with the colza flowers  which I did in the same style, wasn't accepted. Please tell me if this is better and if I can improve something

Hi Vlad I quite like this image, Plenty of power to please and great looking quality - Yes I would say it stands a great chance - I have had it back into Phtoshop just to see what could look a lot better - I did some dodge work on the sunflowers to lift the colour and make it brighter - Last I used the healing brush on the bright patches in the sky - I thought this would also help the look.

Thank you for sharing..

Vlad,

It's an excellent photo in my opinion.  I'll just mention a couple of things.  I like the suggestions from both Theo and Daniel - Theo's cropping of the sky and Daniels brightening of the flowers both have the effect of focusing more attention on the flowers and making them the main subject of the image rather than the sky drawing attention away.

You did a good job of keeping the full flowers at the left and right edges of the frame.  It's impossible to not cut some in half - but you did a remarkable job keeping them complete.

If you decide to send the photo to Curation you may have to remove the watermark from the bottom right.  It's near invisible, but if the foreground is lightened it will show.   It's explained in the FAQ that the Head Curators won't accept borders, signatures, or watermarks.  The reason given is so that the finished gallery will have "a uniform and beautiful look".

If you're very fussy about details - there are three power poles on the right horizon that could be made to disappear with the Clone tool.    A very small detail.  Did I mention that we are nitpickers in this section of the site?   :-)

One Photoshop 'trick' you could try with a scene like this is to use Perspective Crop.  If you pull the bottom left and right 'handles' of the Crop tool inward it will exaggerate the foreground, making the nearest sunflowers appear larger and giving a wide-angle feeling to the image.  (as well as nitpicking, we love to tinker)

Thank you very much for the advice everyone, I hope this image will be published soon. One last little question. Is there too much noise on the sunflowers because I shot it at 2000 iso and I lightened the shadows a bit

Hello,@Vlad Ioan

Welcome back to our forum. I personally love sunset images in sunflower fields. Here I can give you some ideas that are a bit subjective. These are the way I look at these images. I do not know if you or anybody else either in critique or curation would like it that way but this is my perspective. I see warm oranges in your sky but the green an the hue of the yellows of the sunflowers look cool to me. That's why I have some difficulties in matching the color cast of the upper and lower parts of this image. I need them to work coherently together. That's why I used a rectangular selection tool to select the sky. I lighted the sky with dehase and decrease texture and clarity a bit.Next I added an orange solid color layer on it and blended it in in hue. Then in Camera raw I decreased the highlights and whites of the sky with a linear gradient adjustment brush. I also used a linear gradient adjustment brush to lighten the field a bit. Then to even the color cast of the whole image I added an artistic 04 color layer on the image. Then I came back to photoshop main workspace an aded a curves adjustment layer. I darkened the mid tones. Finally with the patch tool I omitted the over highlighte areas. Adding more orange blew out the texture. This is just my interpretation. You can proceed as you want to.The image might look to warm now but I think there is more cohesion. Have good light....
