Yan Zhang's talent and skills are overwhelming. For sure he is an achieved landscape photographer. He has been tirelessly exploring the scenes of nature near and far and succeeded to capture those magical moments and transform them into eternal art. His work is focusing on grand landscapes of oceans, sky and mountains. His ultimate goal is to capture the true beauty of nature around us.
I indulged a growing passion in outdoor activities from a young age. Since I started my landscape photography, I found that I was able to combine my photography and outdoor activities perfectly. I live in a place which is quite close to the Blue Mountains, this gives me good opportunities to hike and to take pictures in the Blue Mountains areas quite often.
Is there any specific photo taken by another photographer that has inspired you a lot and why? The following image “Rock Island Bend”, made by Australian photographer Peter Dombrovski, has inspired me to start associating my photography journey to geographic exploration and natural conversation.
This image portrayed a section of the Franklin River in Tasmania that was to be submerged by the proposed Franklin Dam and spearheaded the visual appeal of the Franklin River in the contentious 'No Dams' campaign of 1982. As a result of this conservation campaign, the dam was never constructed. This was an excellent example that a landscape photograph made a positive impact to the protection of our natural.
On the other hand, this image also showed its high artistic quality from a pure landscape photography perspective: it captured remote wilderness scenery that was never seen before; and as an image shot by large format camera, it demonstrated a technical perfection in terms of light handling and composition.
