Carnival
This musican looked at me in a melancholic way despite his colourful outfit.

one thing that really strikes me about this photo is the way that the background colours match his face so well...with the blues over on the one side and the yellows/oranges dominating the other..and even the green at the around his eyes goes with the green of his hat! to me this image is just really beautiful in so many ways.....and look at those eyes! so much expression in them! a top capture to say the least!
Jaap Bijsterbosch  Thx for the nice comment and the way you wrote it down. I saw the rather sad expression in his eyes and took the photo immediately, without thinking about compostion or coulours, so I was very glad about this result.

Okay, good to know how you rank this image. And seriously, I don't think it's bad. It's just not my cup of tea, so to speak...:)

Jaap Bijsterbosch  Fortunately a person can also drink coffee, or beer, or plain water.

It is a rich picture that really makes you think.. the color reflections on the tuba surface makes the tuba a part of the boy.. also the shiny metalic make up on the boy's nose and eyebrow, again makes a relation between the boy and the tuba.. and i think the eyes are the only doors in the picture to "see" inside of the boy.. all the shiny and colorful things are the %95 of the whole picture, but two small eyes can show the reality despite the power of the colors.. and it makes me feel that the eyes are stucked there till the end of the carnival.. it's also very dramatic that he knows he is being photographed, but he is not able to smile or show any reaction .. not with mimics, because his face muscles are already working..not with his mouth or lips either.. only the eyes are left, and can't ever lie, like we see.. he must go on, whatever he feels, and this is what sometimes we all have to face with.. so much to think about the picture, thanks.

Jaap Bijsterbosch  Well, you put into words what flashed through my mind in a split second, when I took the photo. Thank you very much for your words.

You have to excuse me for being a new member and all, but what are you trying to say with this image, except that it's colourful and close up?

Jaap Bijsterbosch  Thanks for your question. I prefer this kind of comment to casual remarks like “Great” or “Wow” or slogans like that. Critical questions make one think about the value and meaning of one's photo.
The reason I took this photo was that I was struck by the eyes of the boy who was playing the tuba. Carnival is supposed to be a happy feast and he was looking rather sad. I found this a melancholic contrast with the colours of his outfit and the shiny surface of his instrument. I know it is not a spectular picture, but you have to give it its time, it needs it.

Jaap.
