The sense of grandeur is awesome.
King Douglas  Thank you, Silvino, and please forgive the long delay in replying to your fine compliment.

This daring composition makes a wonderful image. Tells a simple story, with only a few shapes of light. I loved the rest of your pictures (I'm a dance fan), but this one clearly stands out.
King Douglas  Thomas...I have no idea how I overlooked your very generous comment in regard to this image. Thanks very much.

So you're not just a studio guy. Nice exposure and composition
King Douglas  Thanks, Stephane. Not just a studio guy? Although I was a master of studio lighting, big cameras and carefully planned and executed advertising photographs, what I have always been is a generalist. I like pretty much everything.

A better definition of my style is to say that I like to plan, then execute photographs to capture the images that are already in my head. Rather than wait for something to happen or plan on being in the right place at the right time, I prefer to make something happen--by which I mean no slight to those great photographers who prefer to work differently. Your "Star Rain" is a good example of the things I like to do.

It's like the joke...two vultures sitting high in a tree, patiently waiting to spot some dying thing in the desert to make a meal of. One vultures turns to the other and say, "Patience my ass! I'm going to kill something!"
Stephane Polteau  Hello King. Got your point. By studio, yes I meant planned picture and controlled light. And another yes for so many pictures not taken because the light did not please me, or one element was in the way.
Anyway, you have this gift, or rather skill of mastering and understanding the light that allows you to place shadows where you want them to be. And in this unplanned setting, you shine as you should be.
King Douglas  Then we are on the same page. Thanks again for taking the time to comment and for the understanding of my style--and for the compliment!

Wonderful lines, composition, and light! I especially like the "glow" effect at the end of the building, highlighting the couple.
King Douglas  Thanks, prbimages. I can only attribute the "glow" to the fallibility of my film and lenses and the moisture in the air. I just made no effort to minimize it.

Really nice graphik style, it s hard.
King Douglas  Thanks very much, Gilles.

Stunning image. Great light and lines.
King Douglas  Thanks very much, Bryan, for the high praise.

Very good leading-lines composition, which would probably work great as a full-size print but doesn't quite do it for me on such a small scale.
King Douglas  Thanks, Magnus. I agree completely and that is one of the problems with submitting portrait-orientation images on OE, especially those that rely on compositional elements that must be seen in unison, like a vertical panorama.
Beautiful shot and the title is sweet.
King Douglas  Thank you Angela. I see a number of new AB-K images. I've been swamped with personal tasks for the past week and am just now starting to catch up with my OE chores. I'll comment on yours when I get a chance. Cheers!

Composition is terrific King. A very good street shot.
King Douglas  Thanks, Song Yao. I like this photo, of course, but am a bit surprised to have it published given the remarkable qualities of street photography published on OE.

Loved this in screening. Great job with the contrast.
King Douglas  Thanks, Jerrica. I just set the black point, the white point and the curves between, with a bit of dodging of the overhead windows.

Great shot. It seems they are the two last persons in the world.
King Douglas  Thanks very much, Martine. As Ansel Adams said when accused of taking photos with no people in them, "There are always two people--the photographer and the viewer." So this couple plus the photographer, plus you makes the four last persons in the world. :>)
Martine Muller  Excellent quote, I must remember it... :-))

Beautiful perspective. Great light. Strong title
F.
King Douglas  Thanks, Fulvio. I'm glad you like the title. Isn't it a bit strange how a very good title adds something to a photo? Before participating in OE, I wouldn't have guessed that.
Remo Rufer 4 years ago
as i said in screening, it is great how the windows lead the eyes to the persons.
King Douglas  Thanks very much, Remo.
