After spending half a day hiking, I came across this formation which is the mouth of a large ice bowl near the peak of the Eyjafjallajokull Glacier. What must have taken many millennia to form, this gateway now has an etherial quality that stirs the imagination. Built of Ice, yet containing mounds of volcanic ash on it's floor, the formation's jagged edges beckon you to enter into a mysterious elemental world that, from this vantage point, presents only a thickly clouded winter sky.
As another testament to Iceland's natural wonders I want people to get a sense of wonder and adventure as their imagination stews over the photograph.
The mystery, power and enduring age of nature come together in this photograph and I can't help but feel a sense of awe and grandeur as I think of my own place in time.
