The simple life
A woman prepares coffee for a traditional coffee ceremony, with her daughter on her back. The curious niece is more interested in the foreign photographer. Taken in "Geralta" region, North Ethiopia.

A wonderful cameo of life as we may never understand it. What strikes me about this image is the natural way the small child is placed on the mothers back without a harness. I imagine that one is not necessary by the simple fact that over the passage of time the child has learnt to remain there during the rhythm of movement of the mother its a natural bond that translates into a physical bond as we see it here. Brilliant image Michael you are a privileged voyeur!
Mitchell Kanashkevich  Good observations! I was a little surprised when I saw this harness-less carrying of children at first. I hadn't seen it in other countries. However, it only happens around the home. When they go somewhere far with the kids, the harness comes out. By the way, I am Mitchell not Michael. :)
gerard sexton  Yes my error Mitchell apologies.

Everything seems perfect- light, composition, atmosphere. Their lives, however, seem far from perfect. But then again, our lives suffer from other deficiencies.
Mitchell Kanashkevich  Their lives are actually relatively good. Hard working, proud people. Their oldest son became a friend of mine. He's going to a university next year and I think his future is bright.
Ivan Velinov  You're most likely right. As I was writing my comment I realized that such comparisons are relative. Their lives may be simpler, less stressful, more natural than ours even if they don't have all the luxuries we have.
