Under the Lights
An immensely difficult image for me to capture and process here from a two-week backpacking trip in Canada's Far North. The image required the visualization to blend about 15 images for proper depth of field and exposure. It also required camping out for four nights at this spot, waiting for the Aurora to be where I was hoping it would. Luckily the icicles didn't melt :-)

I arrived at a gathering of photo buddies with my iPad to show them your aurora ice bubbles shot, and when searching for it discovered this one. I'm pretty sure the collective comment was "ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME???" This is just so overwhelmingly incredible. I'm going to Norway this month and have already told Arild that if I don't get any aurora shots I'm going to plant him in a snow drift.

Wonderful, Marc... We've had overcast here in Bergen, so regretfully no aurora for us, this time. :-( I hope it will return soon on a clear day.

Stunning capture! Excellent work both technical and physical! the compo is perfect! It was worth camping 4 nights in these tough conditions. Congratulations!
Marc Adamus  Thanks, Stephane. I actually camped 14 nights out here. The 4 was just at this particular mountain, before backpacking elsewhere. The conditions are just what I love though. You really feel the mountains!

Thanks for the comments folks. Looking back on this one I think the sky got a bit overhsharpened when reducing for web size and introduced a bit of noise. Hopefully not too much of a distraction. This was absolutely one of the most challenging shots I have put together.

The adventure of getting there and waiting for the aurora seems just as exciting as the image itselc Mark. I'm glad you were able to blend the images to into a satisfactory product. Cheer!
Marc Adamus  After taking the image, I went and just watched the Aurora for a while. The sky was unbelievable, in ways I could never capture, especially in a 24mm shot like this. A wide angle would have done better, but the ice formations framing the peak were just too special to give up.
Ansel Siegenthaler  A well deserved time just for observation :) ..sometimes the best photos come from long treks I find. Whether by chance previously or planned well in advance, finding and getting back to this location was a great idea. Again, nice work Marc.
.... amazing, congratulations :)
