An amazing shot if i was shooting bears i,d have my 400mm 2.8 ready thats as close as i,d get too them ...Well done Dennis great capture love all bear images

I don't think these 'black' bears are as agressieve as grizzlly bears and as long as they have salmon to dig out of the river you're fine. Just don't get caught in between them and their food:)

Great shot, Dennis. Strange for me to see a white bear in such a green environment. Heard Paul Nicklens story last weekend, and how much effort it took him to get his shots. You must be a very happy guy after taking a picture like this.

The Kermode bear (Ursus americanus kermodei), also known as a "spirit bear", particularly to the Native tribes of Alaska is s a subspecies of the American Black Bear living in the central and north coast of British Columbia, Canada.
About 10% of the black bear population in BC has a white or cream-coloured coat. This colour morph is due to a recessive allele.

Simply great Dennis! I'm glad you got the chance to see one of these bears, I have been looking for them on my way through the Great Bear Rainforest, not yet committing ample time to wait for their schedule to cross mine :) I am curious which guide service (I assume) you went with here.

Fascinating! Is this perhaps one of the "ghost bears" in British Columbia, Canada? Your photo reminds me of an article in NG (photos by Paul Nicklen) not long ago about these black bears with white fur.
Ansel Siegenthaler  Glad you saw the NG article Björn, it was a great one with great photos by Paul Nicklen too. I've been going to through this area for a while now - looks like it is not a secret anymore :)

Dennis Binda  Yes, that right. It's a black bear with a recessive gene ( if I'm right)
