Words From The Soul

It sure has, agree with Jole. And it has got meaning too, the word "mond" means "mouth" in Dutch, so it tends to go about One that speaks up for himself, from the soul. It just fits all together. Best regards, Karin.

Andre - I am so pleased to read what you wrote about Gerry. Although I have not met him, any communication I have had with him as been more than interesting, more than honest, more than open, and I can see why this image would work knowing him...as you do...He has an interesting face too. Sometimes he looks likes a mobster roughed and tough, other times, comical and fun with his fur hat, and really I suppose it is all part of that personality you have described so well. Clearly this is a very deeply personal photo for you, of the man you have come to cherish as a friend. You have presented him in a very powerful way here. Thanks for this...:) Phyllis
Andre du Plessis  Call him Steve from now on ... he will like that:) Thanks Phyllis, and I am glad that you read the bit below that I wrote back to Chris. And yes, this image makes totally sense to me. It became a portrait with a face, and then more .... and it is always the 'more' that drives me, so when they achieve recognition, the pleasure and satisfaction, and frankly.... the belief, is wonderful to experience. Yes this is gerry, the East End cruiser, the man that is never without words, the clown, but at the same time the left and the right of the image is equally important. Strangely ..... Obama crossed my mind many times as I worked on this image, and you will understand why. Thanks, and take care, Andre

I am surprised to find that the "wanted dead or alive" has been cloned out. Dragan thinks I look like Steve McQueen whatever next. Delighted to see you have another publication & to think this was my idea of a bit of fun.

Great and intense portrait Andre.
Like Patricia I would like to ask you, is there a deeper meaning behind the word mond (meaning "mouth" in dutch)?
Must be something that eludes me....especially regarding the title you choose.

It's beautiful and intense. I love his intense look. I just was confused by the word mond, in dutch it means mouth... So I thought yeah okay, well seen. But it was a bit obvious (or staged maybe) for me. I don't really understand it I guess, what does it mean in the shot?

Andre du Plessis  Dankie Johan. Ek self het die kiekie meer begin geniet hoe meer ek aan hom gewerk het. Onderaan het ek ietsie geskryf oor my motivering om die basiese snapshot in te dien. Groete, en binne 30 dae kuier ek daar in die suide. Andre

Great capture, like the reflective thought, B&W superb as usual....
...now how much does your model charge?

Cheers Chris
Andre du Plessis  Thanks Chris. This was a spontaneous fun image that was taken on Mr G and my walkabout about a month ago. Gerry always comes up with some fun things, and on this occasion he opted for a very reflective company plaque we passed.
Naturally I could not help myself to have a shot ...... but it was only on reviewing this image last week (for the 1st time) that I appreciated that this fun image actually held something more significant ... something that I have learned to appreciate about this mutual friend of ours, and this is it:
As you yourself know Gerry (Gerard Sexton), you will understand that he is a confusing type of guy. Both a comic, very talkative, blessed with an ability to talk to everyone, never mind their so-called status (or lack of it), positive, and a lover of Life.
Yet there is that other side to him - the thinker, that person that does not condemn, that soul that is firmly cemented in conscience, and who can frequently come up with astounding wisdom, and who is honest. (You owe me for that compliment Gerry!)
So on looking at this file, I started to appreciate that look in his eyes, an expression that reflected that other deeper side of Mr G. However, when I took this photograph, I noticed the ending of this company name, of which the last 4 letters spelled mond, which in Afrikaans means mouth, and thought that it will add to this image. Reviewing this image I realised that this was quite fortunate, as those words 'mouth' might indicate words, sentences, and thus what he can come forth with.
Yet the 2nd twist that made me decide to work up this image is that profile on the left side. In that image his expression is not present. He could be a stranger, as that left side (for me) hold little bearing to that of his face on the right.
So .... then I started to enjoy this image, for in this shot that was essentially intended a a fun shot, so much significance started to appear for me.
I was very unsure if this will appeal or mean anything to someone that might not be as involved with the dynamics of this picture as I am, after all he is my buddy, and we frequently meet to talk photo stuff over some pints. So naturally I was very surprised to see this on the FP this morning, and needless to say, very pleased that there was after all something to this opportunistic photo that appealed to the wider audience.
And ..... to answer your question - no, I pay him nothing. In fact, I should now charge him for I think that this is the 3rd (or 4th?) image of his face on the 1X pages. How I wish for a prettier model, but alas, that is all I have at this stage!
sarah navabi  thanks for good explanation :)
Chris Dixon  I think that's what I like most about the shot. The two sides of the same man....and I love your Mond twist :-)
