It has all been said - very good!
The expression is not of a patient ,and if it was then, this man or a woman is a winner .
I have encountered a lot of cancer patients because of my profession, and so far this man or woman is the happiest, the most calm, the most hopeful that I have ever seen, and when life is concerned ,I guess the image is not that important ,though it was captured masterfully ,that I can't denied.
the only thing thing that I find that it goes with a real victorious over the ugly illness,is that three or four very tiny white hair threads like those of a baby over his or her scalp, yet I am a little bit puzzled,if the hair is to fall to that extent ,the eye brows are to fall too,but it is not.in any case ,I wish him or her a painless recovery ,and a happy convalescence.
With my best to both.

I have a brain tumour - hence the haircut on my avatar. I love this shot - I love the expression and the title; cancer is such a useless word - it's a cover for so much that this portrait uncovers. It doesn't have to embody just fear and death; it can be a great motivator to really LIVE life. Yes, it can be terminal, but life is guaranteed to be so, hence it's not worth wasting the energy on those negative emotions; instead feed off that glimmer of hope shown in her eyes as you may live forever, as this photo will.

I returned to the picture several times and was thinking about the title and the portrait, at first sight I did not consider the title as appropriate, because of the expression, seems to me like a contradiction, but traces of the treatment are visible to anyone. I don´t see in his face any pain, sorrow, any "why"..I can just see his will to fight against this terrible disease,no giving up...This fact is great! I think the title is OK.
Congratulations to very strong portrait and captured expression.

I have known quite a few people with cancer, and as far as I'm concerned cancer has a lot of faces, and this is definately one of them. The title is important to me and very suitable for this honest portrait. It's very beautyful...

I appreciate very much bw balance and the clarity of this image. But if look at the title, instead, I have to say that her gaze doesn't trasmitt me all the drama I've often seen in the eyes of those who soffer from this desease. It's just my opinion. I like this portrait like just as a simple portrait. With all respect, J.

Painful and extremely touching even without the title, I have no words for the expression you've captured, it really goes very deep!

Great shot... terrible title (an opinion). It makes me think that that's his name or what/all he is about. Kinda zaps him of depth or dimension. Again, great shot and congrats.
Anna Golitsyna  I think the title tells what is happening and the face is showing that it is by no means not all that is happening. Great title - in the "in your face" way.
