Truly beautiful!
Nicolas Marino  thanks a lot Manjit!
Manjit Singh Hoonjan  The most important reason why I like your pictures are that they seem not overly edited and I can say I am still a bit of a purist. So over-editing makes me feel like its more of digital art and less of photography... but I guess anyone can chose what one wants. :-) Having said all that... edited or non-edited. This site has crazy amount of good work.. and there is LOTS that I need to learn! :-)

This is a wonderful capture, so full of life. I was reading a little about the Bulang culture. They are actually closer to the Burmese although they are as you mention here, an ethnic minority in China. Facinating history they have. these boys are so great!
Nicolas Marino  thank you very much Noelle. Indeed they live right at the border between Burma and China. All this region is inhabited by ethnic minorities (to the chinese) but hey aren't burmese either, even if they are closer to them. Fascinating region. :)

wow.. this was a good experience that you were in their house to know about their culture but how about the language, do they speak english or spanish? beautiful documentary portrait hermano...
Nicolas Marino  Thanks a lot Unggul ! Of course no english no spanish, but I speak chinese, and the little kids who go to school do speak it. Through them I can communicate with the elders which speak the buland dialect. :) It was a really beautiful experience.

and you did give those children some chocolates as a return favor? ;)
Nicolas Marino  hehehe actually i use not to give them candies because i don't want to ruin their teeth but i was happy to be able to send them the photos and they all loved them so much :)

The light from between the floor boards, that serious and cooperative look and posture from the boy in front, not to mention all the stuff in the BG - wonderful environmental presentation of this family. ....and I like the inclusion of that hotpoint of light up above.
Nicolas Marino  Andre, it is so great to read this! Thanks. I had a strong doubts about leaving or not the hole in the roof or not. I had 1x paranoia thinking It'd be rejected for that haha! But I went with how i feel better and left it. I'm glad I did.
This was one split second when they both stopped but they were so so excited I was there that they wouldn't stop moving. You should see the others, they were wild! The cracks were what gave this exceptional light quality, the scorching sun outside filtered through every single crack and made this beautiful golden light.

A real Marino ..... just great and I can look at it for hours. You captured the world of the children so well, always curious :-)
I have never heard of Bulang people, I will google on Internet and find out.
Have a beautiful day Nic!
Nicolas Marino  Thanks so much dear Reggy! Yes, the Bulang are among many of the minorities that live along the China-Burma-Laos border. They are amazingly lovely and friendly. Others are the Dai and the Akku living in the same area. They all share the same regions and live in peace, no conflicts. A nice place to walk around, but it's a lot more humid than Xinjiang :)
Reggy  I have plans to go to Yunnan next year, I'm glad I got that information now :-)) Thanks and have a good day Nicolas!

Nic - Two beautiful children...The peddle pushers as we use to call them here are fabulous. It is just such a shock to see the Western clothes on the kids right down to the shoes. So many things that are interesting to look at it..and I cannot mention that all..but I did want to mention one..and that is those paintings on the wall....That too somehow connects us all...that no matter where we go people want their home to look like a beautiful nest. Congratulations. Phyllis
Nicolas Marino  Thanks a lot Phyl! Yes, cheap chinese made western style clothes are spread all over the country no matter the minority. It is sad. There are very few remaining that dress in their original attires, mainly the very old people.
Btw, these are the grandchildren of the woman in the kitchen you already know :)

Impressive image, Nico !

Did you use a flash for this one, or how about the light ?

Congrats !

Regards

Henrik
Nicolas Marino  Thanks a lot Henrik! :) No, no flash at all, this is ISO 3200, in the south of CHina along the border with Burma, the sun is blistering outside and the houses have cracks everywhere where light filters in magically like here! I was very lucky. Reproducing this with flash would've been way too difficult !
