Hi Andre

Your photographs are very good - a great inspiration.

I am visiting Cape Town after being away for 10 years in September 2011. Is it possible if you could let me provide tips and information to find people, Landscape, street opportunities to photograph in a safe environment?

Andre du Plessis Dear Sue. I bet that you cannot wait. I hope that the homecoming is going to be great. Lots of things have changed - mostly good, others not so good. I take my pictures mainly way up the coast in the Tsitsikamma, so not that familiar with the Cape Town area. Well, I lived there, but at that stage I was not really doing my present type of work. Best suggestion will be to put you in touch with someone from the CT photographic society. Let's communicate via private email: ajdp@me.com

This is absolutely WONDERFUL! I went to see my newsfeed and saw just the thumbnail and immediately opened it! It is so moving and filled with emotion and tenderness. I rarely favorite your photos any more because they are all my favorites and I simply go to your portfolio and see all of them all together. And this one is no exception, another favorite. Once again, another masterpiece from you Andre, working on so many levels. Your control of the many tones of grey in low light always amazes me. As does your understanding of story - all those many elements which make us realise the rich and complex lives of the people you photograph.

Andre du Plessis Thank you for the lovely words Kim. I am glad that this piccie seems to so well received. When I was processing this image I was wondering why I did not place someone in the back in that room, maybe combing hair or something like that. However, now I am actually happy that I did not, as I feel that this might have cluttered the composition, and clouded the main focal point - Yvonne and Cristelle as they are. So I am relieved to read that it was strong enough as is. You remember 'Less is More' - makes me wonder where is Lars the farmer:)

Andre du Plessis Hi there! Am I mistaken ... or have your name grown longer:) Maybe I am imagining things. This house visit was so unplanned - I was traveling back to my village when I thought that I shall stop here, seek out a house to announce and introduce myself, and tell them that i shall come and visit in December. Preparatory work, as such.
However ... the temptation to go and collect my camera from the car proved very tempting after I saw the light inside this house, and met the inhabitants. Now 2 publications later I am so glad that I stopped there. The unplanned nature of this makes it doubly satisfying.

Saad Salem Al Sheihk. Thank you Andre for the details ,and you are not mistaken ,my family name was Al Sheihk,I have just wanted to be known by my first and second name Saad Salem just like I was named in my home ,office and my city.

Andre du Plessis Hi Vincent. yes, I agree with you that little Cristelle's expression is rather fascinating. One feels uncertain whether this is simply her 'look', or if a little uncertainty is entering there. Well, I opted for the latter as I am sure that this stranger with his camera on 3 long legs might have unnerved her. Yet .... she sat so still, and kept her breath. Super 2yr old!

Andre du Plessis Thanks you. Titles are notoriously tricky for me. I showed this to Phyllis beforehand, and she felt that protection and security was something that she picked up in this, so I though to combine those into 'Haven'. I am glad to hear your view on this choice of title. Regards!
