seems like they are having a good time;)
love the colours! they are very powerful and even the pastelly blue of the sky adds brilliantly to the exotic mix.

jimmy hoffman  Ipomoea is one of my favourites too.A big part of the year our garden is full of these beautiful flowers that attract a lot of insects of course!Nowadays I'm using a Canon EOS 7D and a Canon EF-S 60 mm f2.8 macro lens for my macros,sometimes in combination with extension tubes.This picture however was shot with my old Canon EOS 350D.

Amazing shoot Jimmy!

I Saw a movie on youtube about this praying mantis and i didn't know that the could catch both mouses and birds, but i saw how one took a hummingbird, and how another one toook a mouse. I colud never belive this insects? could do that?

Anyway, brilliant photo as usual!

jimmy hoffman  And they eat small lizards as well,as you can see in my gallery(2x).I know that especially the larger species can be very aggressive and sometimes seize prey that's bigger then themselves!

Jim, you're giving us a brilliant show today with two on the fp! So many wonderful colors in this one. I didn't realize the female was so yellow. I was just talking about you a few days ago in Critique-- this is yet another perfect example of incredible macro photography and why I recommended a stroll through your portfolio. Just beautiful!

The colouring of Mantis religiosa in this area in N-Spain is mostly green or dark/light-brown.Now and then this attractive yellow/brown variation turns up.Some local katydid-species show the same.
In this picture it looks even more yellow because of the complementary flower-colour.

I am certain that only you know how to make these macros in such a way that you blend your skill of shooting & your knowledge of the creatures with a wonderful understanding of how colour works. You are the best without doubt. Its why I still cannot take myself down to the shop to buy a macro lens it wouldn't be worth it as I could never catch up!
