The notorious Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupting on the south coast of Iceland, April 2010. The ash plume lighted up by a striking lightning, right above the crater in the glacier.

As I was processing the image, the news in Iceland were announcing security warning on how to avoid to be struck by a lightning in the area around the volcano.

Really great picture! I've just been to Iceland and bought it as postcard ^^
What settings did you use? The startrails look like at least 1 min exposure, but the smoke does not - sooo, multiple exposures combined?

Yeah I have this one in my postcard collection. Regarding the settings, it´s f/2.8, iso 1600, 30 sec exposure. Shot with 5d mark ii and canon 70-200 f/2.8. I never combine images or change them in any way, just minor adjustments. Combining images in photography is not the real thing in my opinion. :-)
