This is Australian born, but Edinburgh based, Jazz singer, Becc Sanderson.

The first version submitted to 1x was rejected, but I reworked it following some superb feedback in Critique and it was accepted

I was really surprised just how much difference adding the background made to it. And I still don't think I've properly worked out yet why a textured background has so much more impact than a plain one, when it is the person we are interested in looking at. Maybe it's a forum thread question

Ben Goossens Sometimes it needs a "little thing" to become outstanding...here the BG is perfectly integrated at the model.. a flat BG ask to much attention IMO.
I once worked together with for an model shooting with a prof. photographer, he paintied roughly a landscape with a very big brush, not perfect at all ,with a small DOF it looked like perfect one!!!

Kim, I am not surprised to see her gracing the front page - which is where she belongs. :) This is an example of an great photo needing just a light touch of extra TLC to become polished and special.
