An age old ritual that has survival written all over it. One will not survive without the other & it works both ways. Terrific Rui a tender moment with a wonderful tale and I guess with your added narrative tells us that once man meddles with nature there are always consequences......
Rui Pires  Thank you, Gerard :)

This ois true goat love! But why they do not even control wulf population? I mean nothing against such.
Oh, very good picture!

Robert
Rui Pires  No, Robert. If they try to control wulf population the "animal rights" people do lot of noise and manifestation ... until day a wulf eat the dog from one of this guys :))))

Heart-warming and has that true-life aura that always create a stronger impact.

And a (tangent) curiosity: are there any wolves left in Portugal nowadays?
Rui Pires  This is a true moment, Ion, not "staged". Yes, in Portugal wulf comunitys start to grow since some years ago when gov. forbinden wulf hunting. The trouble now is wulfs comunitys is increasing and attacks and eat goats, sheeps and other animals and that give many prejudice to farmers and rural people.
Ion Lacatus  Oh, I never implied (or suspected) it was staged... this is precisely why I made the comment. It felt true and as I said this adds weight to the photo.
As far as wolves being "inconvenient", that's a long story and the reason why they where brought on the brink of extintion. Romania is home to the largest population of wolves in Europe (2500-4000 depending on the estimate) and yet in the big picture the damage they do is minimal. Of course "the big picture" is little consolation to a (poor) farmer who lost his only cow. But then a proper compensation scheme can easily be implemented so that we can save both the wolf and the farmer. And NO, compensation for wolves attack is not the cause of the multi-billion dollars government deficits (LOL).
Rui Pires  You have right, Ion. The big problem it is the fact that is almost impossible for a poor farmer proof the reason of the cow dead is caused by wulfs. Need a lot of papers, vet proof, local police, lose of time, so, almost impossible get compensation. For rich farmers is easy.
Ion Lacatus  I hear you. Read the newspapers nowadays and you get dizzy with the kind of numbers you find (most people wouldn't even know how many zeros in a trillion). And yet when it comes to reimbursing a peasant for a lost goat all of a sudden you need the approval of a dozen local and ten national authorities, NATO, UN, EU and the Holy Pope. It's the same all over the place (not just in Portugal).
Anyway, I think I got carried away so I'll stop here. This is a photography site (not for social/political debate :) ) so let me congratulate you once more for the photo and I hope for more in the future.
