johnpainter Thanks! It isn't any big secret--you just need to be there when the light is right. In this case, it was overcast with the sun a little brighter in one area of the sky where the cloud cover was thin. I got down low with my camera to catch the reflection of that part of the sky in the water. The color resulted from that reflection.

Just goes to prove no expectations no disappointments! A really moody shot John that appeals to me for its simplicity the light is particularly good & the way you captured the detail is great. I wonder what bird this feather is shed from was it just natural wastage or from some sort of scuffle... the countryside is packed full of images like this I find this inspiring me to get out there to find some more!

johnpainter You are so right, Gerard--when I have no preconceived notions and just let the surroundings dictate my photos I seem to have a much easier time of it. This feather is from a Canadian Goose. Those birds have come down South to New Jersey where I live and invaded every pond and river they can find.

Thanks, everybody! The funny thing about this image is that it was a throwaway shot. After spending some time photographing around this pond, I had nothing and gave up as my wife and I were both ready to leave for home. For some reason I turned around as I was leaving and quickly fired off this last frame without much thought to it.
