Fearless
Fearless

Why don’t you
Cut Death dead
In the street
Make it reap
Its own whirlwind
Steal a funeral
March on it
And donate its wages
To a worthy cause?
Why don’t you
Stare it in the face
Call its bluff
And show it up
For what it is?
It’s nothing
Only a fiction
Invented by Time
Nothing
But a shadow
Cast by other men
You can walk
Right through it
Any moment
You choose.

Your poem is beautiful and fits so perfectly with this powerful and graceful portrait.
My compliments.
Phyllis Clarke  Hi Lara.. I cannot take credit for the poem this was written by my husband the man in the picture...but thank you from both of us...very much. Phyllis
Lara Kantardjian  Aha, I see it now. Explains the intimate portrait. But if you are married then you are one, so really it is your poem also right? :) Tell me, is he published or has a blog where I can read more of his fine poems. Its just that the words really agrees with my mind. Kind of rare that.
Regards to both of you. L

Looked for your photos because of the one you put in "critique", I prefer this portrait here which is deeper I think !

I like very much the light in the eyes and the texture of the skin in this one too (better than the one in "critique").as well as the very close frame which is quite good when one makes a portrait of someone one knows closely.

A great portrait with a meaning...and a very beautiful poem !

Congratulations to both of you.

This is a lovely shot of your man, Phyl, the light is just perfect!
Phyllis Clarke  Thanks..Mel..he was sitting in he screened in porch in late afternoon,, the sun is setting behind him..:)
Absolutely stunning portrait here Phyllis! I feel like I could reach right through the screen and touch his rough face. I love his vulnerable and surprisingly open expression, despite the fact that he looks like he could be unapproachable. . .

beautiful words. I especially like the passage "steal a funeral, march on it" The photograph is quite strong as well but I love seeing prose and photography presented together.

Cheers,

Hi Phyllis. I see a great deal of self-mindedness in those eyes. Maybe I might have been led by your title, however I don't think so. Naturally 'Camel Man' jumps to mind:) - however, you have done very well here to bring forward a steely determination in this face. Mixed with compassion. A confusing medley here. Very well done, and ever so glad to see your work on the PF again.

Absolutely beautiful.
Unlike mr. Pataki I think the poem very well matches this portrait.
To me it is not a somber poem but a poem of strength and courage, about overcoming your fears and to live life as it's ment to be lived, without fear.
And that's exactly what I read in the eyes of this charismatic man.
Just my thoughts, it's all subjective.
Anyway, wonderful work Phyllis.

Congrats,
A very beautiful picture! a beautiful composition ,The story of this man in the hat and deep look.

Une très belle photo ! une jolie composition , l'histoire de cet homme au chapeau et au regard profond.
Balazs Pataki 2 years ago
I don't know... the look doesn't really match the somber mood of the poem. Of course, it matches "You can walk Right through it Any moment You choose", I mean the spirit of those lines. But there is nothing in his eyes that would make me thing of death etc, no, on the contrary.
I think he is very beautiful. And I also think the contrast and tonal range could still be improved a little. But who cares now. Congratulations to both of you.
