Thors' Well
One of my favorite places on earth, this giant sinkhole alternately launches and then swallows water as if its alive.

I really first thought it was waterfalls taken from high above with an amazing creative edit to make it look like a hole. Not sure it was the effect you were looking for. The picture beeing all natural make it even better. Congrats
mm767cap  What an interesting thought! I hadn't considered that, though I can totally see what you are referring to! I was pretty much trying not to go swimming here. :)

This is wonderful!! Perfect timing, perfect shutter speed. The 17-40mm is my favorite lens for landscapes. :-)
mm767cap  Thanks so much Barbara! I'm trying to figure out how to get my shot at Mesa Arch. I view yours often for inspiration!
Barbara Read  Well, it took us two trips--both in October...I consider the first to be 'information gathering' (aka 'didn't know what the heck to expect.) Based on the first trip, I knew where the sun would rise and staked out my position along the arch in preparation for the starburst. The first time we had an amazing sunrise, but the second trip the sunrise only lasted a few minutes before disappearing behind a bank of clouds so I am especially thankful for the shots I did get. I think the sun rises in a better position in the fall than earlier in the year based on shots I've seen taken. When you get there, I know you'll be prepared to get the shot you envision...it's only the sun that has to cooperate. ;-)
