The emotion is very well captured here.....

Really great emotive expression. But the background (the black stuff) isn't well done. And it could have a bit more contrast.

You have captured what feels like a defining moment in this man's life; I can't say why it just feel that way. In doing so, you have managed to touch my inner core...don't worry about the background..you can fix that before you print it..little flaws are sometimes good..:)) Stix, congratulations on your first b/w publication; wishing you many more. My best Phyllis.
stix  HI Phyllis
I asked this man to think of something sad, at which point he broke down weeping.
I didnt realise that he had very recently lost a loved one.

Very nice expression and the eyes are very engaging, however it does seem a bit flat to me and it is a pity because you've captured a great moment here.
stix  I can't agree that the lighting is flat, there is a lot of contrast from right to left.
Faddoush  That might be, but it does look flat, that is how I see it. I guess we will have to agree that we disagree :)
stix  We must have a different perception of what flat is. :)
Romanas N.  I also find it rather flat mostly due to b/w conversion - you've probably used some sort of filter in Photoshop, red or yellow, though I might be mistaken. There might be, from one point of view, a lot of contrast from the left to right side of the picture, but it's very subtle (the face only, the rest is irrelevant right now) and makes the subject look too.. optimistic. Yet there's pain in his face. A paradox, in a way. Is it good or not - personal preference, I'd like some more contrast added. Other than that - a very strong portrait, I cry rarely, but probably would had I been there at the time of shot.
