Belvedere dawn

I had this scene to myself on a morning in May. I could smell the scent of hay from a barn close by and the only sound to be heard was the call of a pheasant somewhere in the valley. I stood there in the stillness as the early sunlight illuminated the tendrils of fog stretching across Val D'Orcia. It was a morning I will never forget.

Seen quite often, but this has a wonderful light. I love Tuscany.

Sean Reidy Thank you fuchsphoto. Yes, Belvedere farm has been much photographed and it presents different faces in different seasons. But in May, when the crops are green and the morning mists are likely, it is particularly beautiful.I scouted the location the previous evening and got up at 4 a.m. the following day to drive there before dawn. But the best light was at around 7 a.m.

While I was there, I also shot a 20 frame multi-row panorama of the scene, which I later stitched into a huge and very detailed file. I have printed it 1.2 metres wide and it is beautiful. I may submit a version of it to 1x in the future.

fuchsphoto Great. My eyes follow the wine hills in the foreground on the path to Belvedere and then further down the path to the other house in the mist, then over the hill in the background with the tree row to the right to the single tree and back to Belvedere. Just a perfect composition.

I agree with everyone. I stood in your picture and for a moment I had wings to soar. Not every picture has this effect on people. Its simple pure and loving. One day I hope to stand there and give thanks for being. You did a wonderful thing.

Sean Reidy Thank you Wings. If you get the chance to go there, you should certainly do so. It is just outside San Quirico d'Orcia, in the Siena region of Tuscany.

A wonderful image, a beautiful place

Sean Reidy Thank you Marei. It is one of the most beautiful places in Tuscany. It is almost a place of pilgrimage for landscape photographers now. I was lucky to be there on a good morning, though I had scouted the location the evening before and chosen my standpoint on the hill above.
