Eight Seconds
That's how long the bull rider must remain on the bull's back.

I'm not a fan of rodeos--I imagine it must be a cruel life for the animals and a hard and dangerous one for the cowboys. My husband finally talked me into going with him to a couple, so I took photos. My intent was not to glorify rodeo life or anthropomophize the animals--but show what rodeo life is like for the men, women and animals.

impressive moment Barbara
Barbara Read  Thank you, Piet! I imagine you've seen my husband's much better rodeo photos over at Photoblur? ;-)
Piet Flour  hahaaaa, you are doing it together ... great!

It's not about overall, it's about this one.
And as he did not upload this one or this bull (I think) , You did a better job !
On other's it's possible he won
for me it is a 1 - 1 score at the moment :-))

Love this ... a visceral image ... the square crop really works here, seemingly trying to contain all that ferocious raw power. This is not a sport for the feint hearted and the expressions of the rider's 4 compadres are priceless!
Barbara Read  Thank-you! These bulls allmost explode out of the pen when the gate is opened--glad to know I managed to capture a glimpse of that. Bull riding is definitely not for the feint hearted--I think a tiny dose of crazy is a requirement, too. ;-)

The posture and expression of the men behind is priceless.
Awesome image, love it!

Barbara Read  Many thanks, Jeroen!! It was those four cowboys that made the shot for me, too. Of course I didn't notice them at the time--not until I got home and opened up the shots on the computer.

Barbara
Jeroen Oosterhof  You're welcome Barbara. With this kind of action shots you never know exactly what you're gonna get until you're under the christmas tree and open up your present :)
To me that's a beautiful and addictive aspect of photography.

But besides that I think you nailed it with the composition and the shuttertime/exposure.
