Frames
The black lines and borders are not added - it is the film.

I have been playing with scanning negatives (positives in this case) that are split over two frames - as opposed to between frames. Then moving these "spliced" scans about into different sequences.

I have been doing it with shots that are linear in sequence - so down the same street or same place at different times. Or in this case, every few steps down the length of a city bus.

E-6 film goes pure black where not exposed which is included in the scan which is then usually cropped out at the area where the light fall off on the film plane starts. But Not here. ;-)

Style was inspired by a great shot on flickr where the photog shot 120 format film and exposed for 6x9, but advanced the film as if it was 6x4.5 - Giving one continuous overlapping story for the full length of the film.

Amazing image, Richard, I really like the effect.
Richard Ford  Thanks John

great! like a good movie that tells a lot without conversation.
Richard Ford  I think the wide/panoramic style is what also helps to give the "Movie" like feeling. Check out a shot of mine on my profile page of the people hugging. It is cropped to 16:9 and feels very "Movie" like too.

In color... and in very well composed format: perfect:-))
Richard Ford  Thanks Ben. I have been trying to get over my fear of colour and I am starting with very neutral and desaturated films. However this shot came out as I would have liked - even though it was shot with a so called "Vivid" film.

Ben Goossens  Life is in color, so don't be afraid. Maybe some subjects are better in BL/W, but mostly a difficult choice.
I like desaturated colors!!!!

Regards,
Ben
Richard Ford  Vivid colours are not my thing. SO I am going to use the so called "Wedding Films" like Astia and Porta and try for these pale, true to life colours as small step up from monochrome.

Ben Goossens  Rihard,
I don't know if you use Photoshop:
With a desaturated copied layer > blending mode on color > +-50% or less, you can reach the same desaturated tones.

I have come back for a second look and need to say how impressed I am with this. Really great work...
This is really good. Hope to se more.
Richard Ford  Thanks Angela. It is pretty hard. Well for me it is hard to pre visualise - so I am just picking scenes that I think will work well and then shooting them linearly. And then seeing what falls out or not. I wanted to do the same as he flickr photog - but in time. Once I get good at doing 2-4 frames - I'll see about 16 exposures/12 frames worth.

Angela Bacon-Kidwell  Well, keep it up! You don't necessarily need to pre-vis- just shoot a lot and you will find your own niche.
What is the link to the photographer on flickr?
Richard Ford  Found it!!

Angela Bacon-Kidwell  Thank you! Your image grabs me more that his work.
Richard Ford  I went looking last night hoping it was in my favs - but it isn't. I'll try to find it again. I found it while searching on holga and 120 cross process stuff....

Quality work! Love it. The left and right side fits perfectly as scenes from the book playing in her mind
Richard Ford  If the guy's shadow on the right did not have the glasses clear - then it would be a bust... needed to have those elements of humanity in there.

Excellent idea, and the close in feeling is exceptionally good. My best, Phyllis
Richard Ford  Well it was someone else's idea - unfortunately I never saved the pic as a fav in flickr. :-9

One of your best!
Richard Ford  Well - we'll see! I love the skin tones - not expecting them from a VS film. Can't wait to try Astia now!
