Flower Power
I noticed this flower beginning to engulf part of a barbed wire fence. It reminded me of the "flower power" slogan of the late 60s and early 70s when popular culture was turning against war, preaching non-violence and passive resistance. Barbed wire is often associated with war and bad intent, so I thought the juxtaposition of the flower surrounding this symbol was worthy of a picture.

Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes from this image being on the front page! It's funny, this photo seems so old to me now and I tend to fixate on the technical flaws. However, it does strike a chord with many people so I'm happy it brings some meaning to viewers.
there is a great message in this photo, you shown us the flower power + photography power...

John this is excellent, I love the framing here and the processing, of course the subject is just perfect too.
Nice blurry, dreamy ambiance + the message, make it a great pic. I notice also the spider web "wires", which reveal a good quality lens and appropriate natural light ... Ourstanding job here.
johnpainter  Thanks a lot, Dan. Truthfully, this one came together very easily for me with no real planning. It's the ones a put a lot of effort into that give me trouble! ;-)
Dan BERILLOUX  ahahah lol, same for me ... for the "lights" one, I was just walking back rom the beach with no real search of something ...

I really enjoy the combination of the brightness created by the flower in the photo, in combination with the background. It contains many details and leaves also many details lost in the background.
johnpainter  Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy it.

Amazing composition of softness and hardness in a single shot. Great capture of detail, even down the to water droplets on the spiderweb. If it hasn't already, it should definitely be posted.
johnpainter  Thanks, Jimmy! This one did work out well and I'm glad you like it too.

That's beautifully done, and I like very much the explanation too:)
So many details in this photo..
johnpainter  I liked the way the cobwebs under the barb form an "X", which often denotes being wrong. And, the bokeh on the top seems to shoot joyously from the top of the flower. That was just happy accidents, but it made me like the picture in more subtle ways.
MarieM  I agree with that too John.
In any case, nature provides more than we can see, and when we look closer,
we see absolute marvels, as you did see and show for our pleasure.

Thanks, Cup & Gio! As is becoming my modus operandi, I went to take pictures of a different subject and found something more interesting while I was there. I'm especially tickled with this photo because I used a Nikon lens that I purchased for $1 at a local country auction. The story in this photo seemed to tell itself.
