Curious to know where this is. Somewhere in NC? I've seen a similar shot (maybe the same structure?) on Joe McNally's site.

jfsavage Yes, both shots are of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on the outer banks, NC. I took a number of pictures, including one that looks very similar to Joe's image, but that composition did not work for me. Hatteras is the most interesting of the OBX lighthouses to me as the spiraling lines create a fascinating shape.

I miss a piece of white in the black

jfsavage Me too! I could not find a way of doing that naturally. Photoshopping a specular highlight would have done it, or other manipulation, but that was not a direction I wanted to go. If there had been a natural option for a bit of white in the black, I would have used it.
