This isn't about Bad Hair at all, but about what we think is okay to show about ourselves to the world and what we hide. It's about shyness and exhibitionism.

Photographers tend to avoid getting into the pictures themselves. Many become photographs for that express reason. Sometimes we use a lens to reach out through our shyness, as it allows us to connect with others and legitimize our desire to look at someone or something a little too closely for comfort.

So when are we presentable and ready for prime time? When are we good enough to perform or put ourselves on display? When can we allow others to see us naked, as it were. Or simply untended, with morning hair?

It's also about contradiction. Self-portrait: revealing; Dark glasses: cop-out. Nude, yet prudishly cropped. Subject "just like it is, unretouched" but heavily post-processed.
