Still one of my favs ever. (Popped up in the random images today.) Ohh and I missed your answer somehow - we live in Brussels. Maybe we should get together one day?
KoPi  :-) Really need an excuse to pick up the camera again Balazs, so just let me know and I'm on my way to brussels.
btw, do you know the Belgian photographer stephan Vanfleteren ? http://www.stephanvanfleteren.com/
Just bought his book 'portraits'. takes the 'great' right out of my photos :-(
Balazs Pataki  Thanks for the link! I haven't been to the photography museum in Charleroi yet, maybe you want to be my guide? :)
KoPi  err... I have never even been in Charleroi Balazs :-(
That said, it seems like a great place to visit. An old industrial town. So I would love to go, but if you're counting on me as a guide, then also count on getting lost :-)

Awesome shot. The contrast between the tattoo and her soft white skin is simply magnificque.
KoPi  thank you Hendrik, Daniel, Javier.
Yes Javier, Rose was quite pale, allthough I admit to having emphatized the pale-ness in post processing. thank you for dropping by and leaving a comment

Nicely composed. I like the slouch and the tat.

KoPi, I live in Belgium for 7 years now and always asked myself where are the great Belgian photographers. Well, here is one. It's absolutely stunning and I'm glad I found it through Frederick Lim Cung Wei's "Women" gallery. I will study this photo whenever I want to know what "story" means.
Only because you mentioned that you aren't 100 % satisfied with the conversion dare I to remark that the black bra could use some details, but as it seems this has no effect on the successful perception of this photo. Grace a Dieu...
KoPi  thank you Balazs for the feedback. yeah, I had quite some problems with the conversion for this one. was obsessively occupied with her face (the whites) - still not overly pleased with the result - and basically just ignored the blacks.
Where in Belgium are you living btw? We (the little family) recently returned from Bangkok to live in Belgium

Koen,

this is a stunner of a portrait.
Great angle and above all the eye contact is to die for.

robert
KoPi  hey Robert. good to see you here. stick around :-)
Rosco  am planning to.
I understand that posting criteria are high and that not all photos are accepted. let's see how it goes.

Robert
Awesome!
KoPi  Thanks Mitchell. still a bit surprised how well this is perceived. still have some issues with it (the b&w conversion) myself I guess

I don't think very clearly in terms of portraiture so to me the technical aspects of this picture are perfect, i like that she is a bit "too" white or blown out. This feels extremely spontaneous, and I love that.

Koen Pieters  Merci jack.

thanks jack. Rose had a bit of a (seemingly) mischievous/wicked demeanor; a very interesting mixture of unusual beauty and attitude. I tried to tell a little story here, or at least give the viewers the impression that they are looking at a still from a bigger story.
I very much liked the setting... an old barber shop with those typical chairs. The man was one of the barbers, or perhaps a customer. As he was seated there, I tried to make him part of the story, but he didn't know this. He just sat there and watched us - especially Rose as she had taken off her shirt :-)
So all I had to do was to include him in the composition and let Rose pose so that it seems like she's very much aware of his glances (which becomes clearer though in other photos I have of her). for this reason I chose the title of the film with Isabelle Adjani, as she portrays a similar role in l'été meurtrier

Hi Koen, I really like the model's intense look, and the context created by showing more background. If you don't mind me asking, what was the reason you chose to render her skin so white?
