It's a good photo - very whimiscal - I'd like it even more as a 6x6 - but it ain't injustice. It is reality. I tend to not shoot the homeless and beggars. Because it is like a photo of africa that shows a woman carrying a jug of water on her head.

The reality is, is that this child is no worse off than any other non middle class child in China. As opposed to africa, they are well fed and have shelter. China's social issues are for China to work out. Shining a light on it is good - editorialising is to do an injustice.

Then again, I am a resident here of almost 10 years now...
Craig Martin  Thanks for the comment Richard. But perhaps you misunderstood the meaning behind the title - I do not mean to suggest that the injustice is specific to China or the Chinese system of government. There are children in similar plights in the majority of countries in the world. The injustice is that a child should have to begin life this way, denied most of the opportunities that might allow for the realization of his or her potential. It is indeed a reality, a sad reality, and no less unjust for all that - and, with respect, brushing it off as such diminishes the possibility of reducing that injustice in the future.
Richard Ford  I take your point about it not being fair... but that is life. It is law of the jungle at the end of the day and every situation is relative. The child could be better off, could be worse off too. There may be some trust fund kid in the USA that would rather be this kid and have his father alive than have money and house and opportunity.

It is not for outsides to judge another's injustice. Individuals need to make that decision for themselves and do it themselves. And by individuals, I mean individuals, societies, cultures, countries and philosophies.

Koen, thanks for the candid comments...but out of curiosity, why do you hate the title? In the context of principles of equal opportunity, is it not an injustice for a child to have to begin his life in this way?
Koen Pieters  I just find it overly leading Graig, which rather works against the picture than for it. If the photo has a strong message... then let the photo speak. With the title it's just overkill. Let people come to a conclusion themselves

very much hate the title tbh, and allthough I tend to hate most buskers/beggars/homeless photos (what can I say lol... I'm a profound hater :-), I find this one rather appealing. It has little to do with the begging or 'injustice' theme though... it's those two expressions that just make me smile.
