King Douglas Thanks, Siavash. This was shot on 35mm Kodachrome slide film with one electronic flash unit.

Hey King, THIS is exellent, how could you achieve this light and a so pure result with these nice reflections, wow terrific, really good job :))))))) I d like to make that kind of stuff.

King Douglas Thanks, Gilles...it's really pretty easy.
Put a broad, soft light directly over the object. With an object this small, most lights are already pretty broad.
Put something between the light and the background to make the lighting fall off from lighter to darker on your background.
Position a little mirror in a position where highlights are reflected back onto the object. Experiment a little bit. You can spray the mirror with hair spray or other stuff to soften the highlights. You can also put a piece of tissue over the mirror.
Take the photo.

King Douglas Tell John I understand. However, having been both a secretary and a ballet dancer, I can report that real men can handle pink.

When I was one of many photographers in large studio, I marked all my personal equipment (except cameras and lenses) with day-glo pink tape. It made my stuff easy to locate and identify ("Dude, I need my light stand when you're through with it"). I was teased about my color choice. I told them that I was the only man in the studio secure enough in their sexuality to use pink. They seemed to work.

That cant be toothpaste! It has to bee candy! :O) It looks like it that is..! I think i remember in my childhood, we had a red paste.. Hmm.. I wonder if it was brought back from the states.. Well! Your photo trigged my childhood memories! That is not bad!
Like the light, its clean and bright, could be a pick for commercial! Heck, I would by it! :O)

Very... I can't find the right word... creamy... =) Very nice light and sharpness, is it a studio shot?

King Douglas It's a studio shot that would have been done better (e.g., the blown-out highlights) if its original purpose had not been a simple joke. I created it to tease a friend whose similar photograph was absolute perfection in illustrating a line of striped toothpaste (Aim?) lying totally straight on a perfectly manicured toothbrush. It took him days. Mine took minutes.

Laurence Garçon This photograph shows us a full story... something that happened 30 seconds before the shot... and that is totaly a part of that photograph. And, in what concern myself, what I see is and imagine make me smile (a bit like the sentiment of Nicole). Something like a "child pop-art" photographed by a master...
