Magnetospheric Magnificence
It was a very bright moonlit night and the Northern Lights were on and off. I wanted to get the full breadth of the mountains and lights in the scene so I set up in the middle of a small frozen lake and tried for a 3 frame composite panorama. Unfortunately the wind was gusting to 50 mph and the lights seemed to be in sync with the gusts. When the aurora lit up, the wind picked up. After 4 hours I was about to give up when the aurora came on during a lull in the wind. I grabbed three 10sec exposures. Stitching was done with Panorama Factory.

Bravo Gary! You patience was worth the effort, an excellent pano!
Gary Minish  Thanks, Scott! I think stubborness was as big a factor as patience though.
Scott Crouse  haha, you say that like it's a bad thing! Stubbornness is better then patience any day. I'm a pano freak but never thought of trying pano night work. You've got my mind working.

Gary Minish  Thanks for the kind welcome, Thomas! I was bundled up in a snowsuit and face mask so the wait wasn't all that difficult but I was very concerned that the camera wouldn't function after 4 hours in 10°F weather!
