I was born in Breda in 1949 and raised in Vught. I have been living and working in Voorst for over 15 years now. Voorst is a village in the middle of the triangle of Apeldoorn-Deventer-Zutphen. I have been photographing since 1980 and am a self-taught man.

Up to 2006 I have worked for the government. Since 2006 I have my own photo studio in Voorst, where I take photos professionally. Furthermore, I give several different workshops in my studio.


My photos

I see my portrait photography as a meeting between the photographer and the model. Every meeting has its own value. I try to find the power and character behind each human being and to emphasize this in my photos. I try to accentuate the strong and weak points of each individual in my photos.

I?m especially fascinated by the contrast between beautiful and genuine, between attraction and distance, between posing and natural. I get my inspiration from classical portraits dating from the beginning of last century combined with modern techniques.

My nude studies are mainly about lines, shapes and structures of the human body. On location this is often combined with shapes/structures of the surroundings, for example of nature or ruinous buildings. I herewith follow the rules of the classic nude photography.

I restrict my photos to the absolute minimum, whereby nothing can distract the attention from the real subject. I see the human body as a work of art. It is not about eroticism, but all about an artistic, aesthetic rendering of the fine structure of the skin, the power of the muscles and the shape of the body.

I usually take black and white photos. I often photograph in my studio, in which I can create the optimal conditions myself. However, I also work on location, for example an appropriate interior or an old building.

Publications and exhibitions

My photos are exhibited in The Netherlands and abroad, in galleries and public buildings, on their own or together with photos of other photographers. My photos have been published in national and international magazines, among which Focus, Foto, Zoom, Foto&Doka/Fotografie, Photographie (Swiss), Poytyw and Gazeta Antykwarycna (Poland).
