How to point a custom domain to your personal homepage

Make your page even more personal with a custom domain!

1. Register a domain at a domain provider

A custom domain is a new way for people to access your site, instead of using the *username*.1x.com URL. 1x.com cannot register domains for you, so the first step is that you have to contact a local provider that can help you to register a domain. It is important that they provide DNS management without hosting, since the hosting will be done by 1x.com servers. This should normally not be a problem.

If you want, you can send this message to a provider to find out if they offer what you need to get started:

Hi!

I am interested in registering a domain name using your service. I am only interested in purchasing the domain and using your DNS servers to point the domain to my current website host. Is that possible?

Best regards,
Happy homepage owner

2. Add an A-pointer for your domain to our servers

In the computer world, all servers on the internet has IP-numbers. To make it easier for humans to browse the web, we have domain names that points to an ip-adress. You have to add a pointer for your domain to our webserver that has IP 81.216.10.198. Also, add a pointer for www.*your domain* to the same IP. If you do not know how to do this at your provider's page, perhaps they will help you if you send them this letter:

Hi!

I have registered a domain with your excellent service and kindly ask for some help with the DNS management. My hosting provider has asked me to add A-pointers for my domain and www.*my domain* that should go to the IP 81.216.10.198. Can you please help me with this, or tell me how I do it?

Thank you!

3. Enable the domain in your control panel

Last step and the most simple one is to go to your personal homepage, open the control panel and enter your domain without www and http:// in the Custom domain-section. Save and wait for an administrator to approve (usually takes 24 hours).

DONE!
