This is the place to discuss everything that is not covered by the other topics, for example philosophy of photo, tips about how to improve in different genres of photo and so on.

If this has been asked before please forgive me. Most of my rejects are when I use too much photo edit. My question is . If I use a special effect lens on my camera and post it just as the way it came out, does that count as creative edit. I want to post a picture under architecture , but I used a filter that only sharpens the middle of the picture and the rest is very soft. In a case like that where does this fall in posting ? I use this filter to get a timeless feel. That is my philosophy, to create an illusion of real but another time. Do you not approve of filters for such a use? Would it then be change the status of the picture even though the main part of the art deco would be perfect and untouched? Last how much of my philosophy should I explain as each one has a story and reason for what I did? I am trying to broaden my knowledge and venture into different areas. I hope this question fits your topic. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you. Cile

We will post more info about Creative edit/editing in general very soon.

The basic rule is:

If the editing is extensive (doesn't matter if it is done in Photoshop or darkroom) you should upload to the Creative edit category. If you postprocessed it in a special way, or used special filters, write that in the comment to the screener (it doesn't need to go in the comment to the viewers).

And remember, the screener can do whatever he/she wants. If the photo is very good, heavily edited but posted in Mood, it can be accepted anyway. This is just guidelines and everything depends on the end result. But if you supply all editing/special technique information to the screener you will have a greater chance to get your photo published.

Does HDR class as heavily edited? i.e. do ALL HDR shots need to go in the Creative Edit section, regardless of what the pic is of?

Thanks,

Tim

No, HDR just need to be stated in the comment to screener.

Extensive editing is more like adding new subjects to the image where the editing changes the story/message of the photo and not just how it looks.

I would like to discuss philosophy of a photo . My mind is all giggled up on this subject. For example. " less is more" To use an allusion is getting us to explore one word on two levels; but is this enough in a title for OE when posting. I have had many rejected because the story line was not clear. Maybe it is me who is not clear. I love the philosophy behind the pictures and am always ready to discuss anyones picture.

Thanks for the question Ralph

Cile: I agree with the less is more statement. I think it's easy to get all worked up over finding something extrodinary. In fact some of my best shots imo are when I am not thinking about it. Just looking and pressing the shutter.

Hi!

I'm planning to have a website about photography. I'll show my sample pictures in my website. What is the best background color for my website? And how should it look like?

Neutral gray, I use 60, 60, 60 rgb. White is awful and black isn't much better!!
