Help! I hate grass...
Posted 2 years ago
Not related to street-photography only but that is when I specifically encounter the issue.

I hate grass... (I mean in photog). Every time I have large areas of grass in a picture I got the feeling that it ruins everything. I do mostly b/w - but in color more or less the same (sometimes even worse... that ugly green!). I am not speaking about the wild long grass and weeds you find on the countryside but specifically the kind of short and clean grass areas you got in public parks where things may happen worth shooting. And when it comes to editing it is just a nightmare. I can make it more dense, or lighter but always come up with flat/boring/bland areas, whatever natural light was, I feel that I can do nothing. All I can hope is that I get some interesting shadows.

So what do you guys think about it ?
- Should I just don't worry about it ? Grass is there and that is fine (btw there are others who hate concrete)
- Should I forget about public park shots ?
- Any tips for editing ?
...

Any thoughts ?

My sentiments exactly Jacques, horrible stuff but I just try and confront it head on and try and represent it as it actually is.

See what you think of how I used it. The greens really are vibrant near where I live and are tricky to get right so they don't look like a cartoon, as Robert says a polariser can work wonders.

I would love that they introduce sheeps in public gardens...

Thanks for the input guys.
I have not enough place for a lawnmower in my photobag :) so I might give a try to the polarizing filter. It's been age I did not use one but I think I have one still in good condition somewhere and suitable for my 50mm lens.

Eii, please don´t listen Remo ... or you ruin my goats !!!! :((((

Jaques, if you want, my friends in rural village where i take photos for "Rural Moments" project can send you 2500 goats and solve your problem !

If you go to NYC make sure you stay away from the West side or you could accidentally bump into Central Park. There is so much grass you could have a deep depression. I don't think there are any goats there maybe some very old Lions. :)

I hope your polarizing filter will work and you will have a new refreshing relationship with grass.
This thread has given me my smile for the day. :) Thank you.

I have been in Central park a couple of times. Lots of grass indeed and squarrels can't do the job like goats :)... just like the Common park here in Boston. I like grass for everything except for photo (might have some allergy though...). Public park in Paris are not so green, great for photo but can be really dusty... BTW it is likely that I will spent 2/3 days in NYC for Thanksgiving. Is there any chance to have snow ?

Always a chance but not great for snow on Thanksgiving. Pretty good chance of cold rain tho...

I think there is more of a chance you could get beach weather with the warming. I recommend Robert Moses State Park..no grass..I promise.:)))
